About Thomas Drees

Tom Drees is a Managing Director and Financial Advisor with the 8300 Group at Morgan Stanley, where he works with families, business owners, executives, and professional athletes to help them make informed financial decisions and pursue what matters most to them.

For more than 30 years, Tom has guided people through some of the most important moments of their lives—building careers, selling businesses, raising families, transitioning into retirement, and planning what comes next. His goal has always been simple: help clients feel confident about their financial future and supported along the way.

Tom began his career after earning a degree in Accounting and Finance from Creighton University and joining KPMG Peat Marwick. He then spent 16 years at Merrill Lynch before joining Morgan Stanley in 2008. His background gives him a strong foundation in both the technical and personal sides of wealth management—from understanding the numbers to helping clients make decisions during times of change.

Tom's path to financial services was shaped by another demanding career: professional baseball. After being drafted by the Chicago White Sox, he spent six seasons playing at every level from A-ball to the Major Leagues while simultaneously pursuing his career at KPMG and Merrill Lynch. This experience gives him a distinct perspective when working with professional athletes—understanding the uncertainty of a sports career, the importance of planning early, and the need for guidance beyond the playing years.

Tom and his team work with clients to develop strategies across investments, retirement planning, cash flow management, and legacy planning, helping to bring clarity and structure to increasingly complex financial situations.

Tom's work has been recognized nationally. In 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025 Barron's named him one of the Top 1,200 Financial Advisors in the United States and a Top 10 advisor in Minnesota. In 2024, 2025 and 2026, Forbes recognized The Drees Marrujo Group as a Best-In-State Wealth Management team.

Tom and his wife, Stephanie, live in Eden Prairie and have three adult children.
